AIHP\u2019s Nominations Committee has announced the nominees for positions on the Institute\u2019s Board of Directors. AIHP\u2019s Board of Directors includes five officers (three of whom are elected), three elected directors, two ex officio<\/em> directors, and up to three Board-appointed directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, three candidates are running for three open positions. The Committee has nominated Dr. Nancy Alvarez to stand for election as Secretary, a position currently held by long-time Institute friend and Director, Dr. Robert Buerki, whose term is expiring at the end of the year. Dr. Alvarez is presently an appointed director whose term runs 2022-2024. The Committee has nominated Dr. Lucinda Maine and Mr. Nimesh Jhaveri, R.Ph., to stand for election for the remaining two positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nancy Alvarez<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Nancy Alvarez<\/strong>, PharmD, BCPS, FAPhA, CPCC, is the Associate Dean for Academic and Professional Affairs at the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy at The University of Arizona, where she oversees all aspects of the Phoenix branch location. She is also an Associate Professor of Practice for the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, and Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Arizona in 1992 and is a board\u2010certified pharmacotherapy specialist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Alvarez served as the President of the American Pharmacists Association from 2017-2018 and served three terms on the organization\u2019s Board of Trustees. She has served as President of the Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society and vice president for collegiate affairs for the Phi Delta Chi Professional Fraternity. She participates in leader development for the Pharmacy Leadership and Education Institute as a facilitator, content developer, and program director. She is the co-author of Lead Grow Shape: A Prescription for Life-Long Leader Development Workbook (2018) and co-author and editor of Bypass Pharmacy Burnout: Changing Your Trajectory to Enhance Your Experience<\/em> (2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Alvarez received the 2021 Linwood F. Tice Friend of APhA-ASP Award from the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA\u2013ASP). In 2020, she received APhA\u2019s Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Alvarez\u2019s practice experiences include community-based pharmacy practice, end-of-life care, and medical communications in the pharmaceutical industry. She has been an AIHP member since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucinda Maine<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Lucinda L. Maine<\/strong>, Ph.D., R.Ph., FAPhA, FFIP, is the CEO Emerita of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr.  Maine served as executive vice president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy from 2002 until 2022. AACP serves as the leading advocate for high-quality pharmacy education in the US and around the world. Prior to assuming her position in July 2002, Maine served as senior vice president for policy, planning, and communications with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Maine is a pharmacy graduate of Auburn University and received her doctorate at the University of Minnesota. She has also received honorary degrees from Western University and Ohio Northern University. In her academic career, Lucinda served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota, where she practiced in the field of geriatrics and was an associate dean at the Samford University School of Pharmacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Maine has been active in leadership roles in and out of the profession. Prior to joining the APhA staff, she served as speaker of the APhA House of Delegates and as an APhA trustee. She currently serves as a board member and vice chair of the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education. She also serves as a founding board member and current President of the Alliance for Integrated Medication Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Maine has received numerous awards, including the 2019 Remington Honor Medal and a Special Recognition Award in 2022 from the Association of American Medical Colleges. After retiring from AACP in June 2022, Lucinda continued speaking, writing, and consulting with a variety of entities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nimesh Jhaveri<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Nimesh Jhaveri<\/strong>, R.Ph., is Executive Vice President and Chief Impact Officer for McKesson Corporation. As a member of the Executive Operating Team, Nimesh is responsible for McKesson efforts in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Environmental Responsibility, Impact Strategy and Operations, the McKesson Foundation and Social Innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nimesh,  a licensed pharmacist, joined McKesson in 2018 as Senior Vice President, Health Mart. Most recently, Nimesh was President of Community Pharmacy and Health, which includes field sales and operations, the Health Mart Franchise, Health Mart Atlas, Consumer Packaged Goods, development and innovation, marketing, independent and national accounts and emerging pharmacy channels. Prior to McKesson, Nimesh led healthcare services for the Walgreen Co., where he spent 29 years in various leadership roles leading business development for pharmacy practice design, automation and technology, pharmacy operations, human resources and corporate operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nimesh serves on the board of directors for Northwest Community Healthcare; the board of trustees for Rutgers University and Rutgers Global Health; the executive board of directors for Imerman Angels; the board of directors for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS); the advisory board of directors for Illuminate Health; and the editorial advisory board of Pharmacy Times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nimesh holds an undergraduate and professional degree in pharmacy from Rutgers University and a Master of Business Administration in organizational behavior from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As required by AIHP\u2019s bylaws, the Nominations Committee will present these nominees at the Institute\u2019s Annual Members Meeting (previously called the Annual Business Meeting), which will be held Wednesday, November 15, starting at 1:00 pm Central. (More information about the Annual Members Meeting, including the agenda and a link for joining the online meeting, will be posted on the Institute\u2019s website shortly.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under AIHP bylaws, any member in attendance at the Annual Members Meeting can nominate additional candidates if seconded by two other members. The Nominations Committee\u2019s slate, plus any additional members nominated at the meeting, will appear on a digital ballot circulated to members later in November.
