{"id":8006,"date":"2023-09-26T14:36:40","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T14:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox2.foxtrotdev.com\/?p=8006"},"modified":"2023-09-26T14:36:41","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T14:36:41","slug":"announcing-the-2023-george-urdang-medal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandbox2.foxtrotdev.com\/?p=8006","title":{"rendered":"Announcing the 2023 George Urdang Medal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AIHP Historical Director Lucas Richert, PhD, today announced that Dr. Alain Touwaide has been selected to receive the 2023 George Urdang Medal, AIHP\u2019s most prestigious award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AIHP awards the George Urdang Medal biennially to recognize the lifetime achievements of a person who, over a sustained period, has made important scholarly contributions to the field of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. The award honors Professor George Urdang (1882\u20131960), a pioneering historian of pharmacy in Germany and the United States, and AIHP\u2019s founding Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Alain Touwaide, a scholar, lecturer, collector, and the current Scientific Director of the Institute for the Preservation of Medical Traditions, has been active in the area of the history of science and pharmacy for more than three decades. He is a previous recipient of the AIHP&#8217;s Edward Kremers Award. Dr. Touwaide was selected to receive the George Urdang Medal by an international panel of historians of pharmacy, including Drs. Patrick Chiu, Francois Ledermann, Rima Apple, and Lucas Richert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AIHP plans to honor Dr. Touwaide during its Annual Members meeting on November 15, 2023 and then formally present the George Urdang Medal to Dr. Touwaide at the International Congress for the History of Pharmacy meeting, scheduled to be held in Belgrade, Serbia in September 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again, AIHP would like to congratulate Dr. Alain Touwaide on receiving this prestigious award and thank him for his contributions to the field of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AIHP Historical Director Lucas Richert, PhD, today announced that Dr. Alain Touwaide has been selected to receive the 2023 George Urdang Medal, AIHP\u2019s most prestigious award.
