Since its founding in 1941, the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy has sought to encourage and recognize research, writing, and other activities that advance the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. AIHP sponsors several awards and prizes intended to promote scholarship and other historical endeavors related to pharmacy history. AIHP has established different types of awards to recognize the work of historians of pharmacy at all levels from undergraduates to established scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AIHP awards the George Urdang Medal<\/a><\/strong> to recognize the lifetime achievements of a person who, over a sustained period, has made important scholarly contributions to the field of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. The George Urdang Medal is awarded without regard to citizenship or nationality. A competition for the George Urdang Medal is conducted biennially, in odd-numbered years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AIHP awards the Edward Kremers Award<\/a><\/strong> to recognize the author(s) of a specific book, or a series of related articles, in the field of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals that exhibits high standards of scholarship, superior quality, and distinguished merit. The Edward Kremers Award is awarded without regard to citizenship or nationality. A competition for the Edward Kremers Award is held biennially, in even-numbered years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, AIHP awards the Glenn Sonnedecker Prize<\/a><\/strong> to the author(s) of the best unpublished manuscript<\/em> submitted in an annual competition on a topic within the field of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. The Prize is aimed at graduate students and Early Career Scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AIHP Robert P. Fischelis Award<\/a><\/strong> honors the contributions of Robert P. Fischelis, a gifted leader of the pharmacy profession and a generous benefactor of the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy. The Fischelis Award is conferred annually by AIHP\u2019s Board of Directors to a person or organization whose work and actions have made significant and important contributions to the field of the history of pharmacy and medicines and to the mission or organizational well-being of the Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AIHP Awards Certificates of Commendation<\/a><\/strong> to recognize activities or historical endeavors by individuals or organizations that (i) advance knowledge or understanding of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals; or (ii) utilize the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals to address or advance understanding of contemporary issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AIHP Student Recognition Certificate<\/a><\/strong> program encourages and recognizes historical study and other historical activities among undergraduate pharmacy students. We hope to make some further contribution nationally toward an appreciation of the humanistic side of pharmacy among students entering the profession. The primary purpose is to recognize and encourage superior achievement in the pharmaco-historical study or activity by a student in each school of pharmacy in the United States that wishes to participate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
